Waxing

The Pros

Waxing is a procedure that aims to temporarily remove unwanted hair growth from its follicles resulting in silky smooth skin. This can only be obtained if the skin has adequate growth (density & length) Waxing is best received 10 days after shaving or use of depilatory creams although a longer growth period offers better results. It is known that receiving a second wax procedure, approximately 4 weeks apart (and with no intervention), produces the most favourable results.  Thereafter waxing is often described as a procedure that reduces the speed and thickness of hair growth which many feel is a desirable outcome.

The Cons

There are, unfortunately, a number of unfavourable reactions to this procedure ...

  • Discomfort
  • Erythema
  • Inflammation
  • Perifollicular Oedema,
  • Bruising
  • Skin Removal
  • Burns
  • Uticaria
  • Rosin Allergy
  • Folliculitis
  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation
  • Induced sensitivity

Warning: You may be at risk of an adverse reaction if you do not read the client pre-treatment and aftercare instructions before each wax procedure

Pre-care

You are required not to use ...

Exfoliating products or techniques (including microdermabrasion) wax, self tan products, ultra violet light, AHA products, Glycolic acids, Retin A, Steroid creams, Accutane or Roaccutane

You are required to inform us of ...

Any medical supervision you are receiving including medication and medical advice, previous adverse reactions and any allergies or heat sensitivity you may suffer, any hidden moles, skin tags, cuts, bites, haemorrhoids, infected ingrown hairs, bruising or piercing's (covered by hair growth), any skin disorders, dry and fragile skin, recent tattoos or scar tissue. Also any joint or mobility problems, broken bones, muscle sprains and other injuries.

We cannot treat ...

Persons 16 or under or those that have exfoliated, exercised, sunbathed, undergone exposure to artificial light rays, spent time in a hot tub/bath, sauna, steam room, swimming pool. We do not recommend waxing areas that have recently had self tan applied. We shall deny treatment when a client has received a wax procedure of the same area within the past 3 weeks. This is to allow the skin to replenish and to avoid skin removal and thus a contra action

Warning: You may be at risk of an adverse reaction if you do not read these aftercare instructions carefully and follow our recommendations

After-care

  1. We take great care in our salon to protect you from infection and, in addition to our normal salon hygiene routine of using fresh disposables for each client including the wax and its' container, we apply an antiseptic aftercare gel/cream/oil upon completion of treatment.
  2. It is important for you to take extra care of the waxed areas, especially within the first 24 hours. When a large number of hairs have been removed from an area and hygiene or aftercare is poor - the area becomes vulnerable to infection. Evidence of this is 'white spots' and is usually caused by putting 'worn clothing' back on. Worn clothing is contaminated with particles of dead skin, environmental elements and bacteria within the cloth fibres. Unclean hands can also introduce bacteria into the waxed follicles.
  3. Refrain from exfoliating, strenuous activities, exercise, gardening, sunbathing, artificial light rays, hot tubs/baths, sauna, steam rooms, sexual activities (after intimate waxing) and swimming until the skin has normalised and recovered it's natural colour, temperature and sensitivity and at least for 24 hours. Warm showers followed by recommended aftercare lotions is fine. Do not apply make-up, self tan creams or deodorant!
  4. The area will be sensitive to heat, friction (from carpets, clothing etc) and touching with unclean hands. Removing restrictive clothing aids cooling of the area and regular applications of soothing gel (straight from the fridge) is beneficial, remembering to clean hands first! Intimately waxed areas require meticulous hygiene particularly focusing attention after urination etc.
  5. To prevent infection, cleanliness is paramount. Avoid using soaps, body lotions or creams containing perfume or additives. We recommend you purchase our 'after wax' soothing products, that also help to prevent ingrown hairs, however Sudocrem, Germolene, Savalon, Calamine Lotion, Witch Hazel and Aloe Vera products are also effective in keeping waxed areas protected. Using an antibacterial skin wash for at least 3 days is advantageous

Pre-Treatment Skin Testing

1] A skin test is a precautionary measure intended to reduce, although not deemed to avoid, the risk of an adverse reaction either during or following a skin test or complete beauty procedure.

2] When a professional skin test is not received, at least 48 hours ahead of each and every treatment and for whatever reason, the client is deemed to have declined the offer of a complimentary skin test and considered happy to accept the increased risk of an adverse reaction

3] Medication, hormonal changes, skin tolerance and sensitivity can alter the way our body reacts to certain beauty products and procedures which may then in turn induce hypersensitivity and/or result in an adverse reaction at any time, even if there has previously been no reason for concern. If a client attends an appointment to receive a skin test or complete procedure, the client must understand that the risk of an adverse reaction still remains.

4] A skin test is recommended for health reasons and essential for client comfort and safety. Our therapists' insurers advise that "The company (insurers) will not be liable for ... operation (treatments) ... performed ... by the insured (therapists) ... or product used or administered by the insured in respect of any of the treatments specified in the Certificate of Insurance ... unless the relevant Warranties ... have been fully complied with". Our insurers also state "It is warranted in respect of ... treatments that the insured will perform a skin test on the client ... before applying that clients first (treatment) and will not proceed ... if the results of the test are not satisfactory". In addition "Prior to ... (treatment) each client will be given full after-care instructions by the insured and will sign a record card to the effect that the client will carry out the after-care"

5] With reference to paragraph 4, it is the clients' responsibility to plan and receive the relevant skin test (or provide proof of having received the relevant skin test elsewhere) at least 48 hours ahead of their very first treatment* which should also be no sooner than 3 months ahead of their very first treatment*
