Lerage Beauty Clinic: Brazilian and Male Hot Wax Specialists

My girlfriend waxed my back using a home kit. I've kept it clean & used a lotion but now itchy red spots are forming

Thank you for contacting us regarding your 'post-wax' concerns

All wax clients display varying degrees of post-wax erythema (temporary redness/irritation) which is completely normal and to be expected. Unfortunately waxing can can also induce hypersensitivity, bruising, inflammation and scabbing
Freshly waxed areas, such as the back, chest, groin and underarm areas are particularly vulnerable to infection therefore meticulous hygiene is of great importance

In areas where dense, course hair is waxed away - the [now empty] follicles are prone to irritation from loose fibres within clothing and bed linen etc. If possible do not re-dress [leaving the waxed area uncovered after applying a professional afterwax product helps the body to cool down faster] otherwise ensure only 'unworn' cotton garments are placed against the skin. A change of bed linen is highly recommended as used bed sheets are covered in dead skin cells that can lodge back into the unprotected follicles

It sounds as if you are experiencing a non specific immune response and the following course of action should help speed the healing process:
  • Cleanse the area with an antibacterial handwash before applying a professional afterwax lotion such as Hive with Tea Tree
  • Keep the area cool & free from irritation, wear silk, satin or cotton garments. Better still, undress the area. Change bed sheets
  • Wash hands thoroughly before touching the area of concern however do not scratch or rub the area in order to alleviate itching
  • Salcura (available from Lloyds pharmacies) can reduce itching. Scratching interferes with the healing process and prolongs irritation
  • Avoid exposure to sunlight and all heat inducing activities until any irritation such as swelling, redness and/or scabbing has disappeared
  • After a few days [and once irritation has ceased] you should 'mildy' exfoliate the skin with a 'rough' bath towel to discourage in-grown hairs
We hope [and suspect] that the symptoms you are experiencing will soon settle however if the area becomes painful and the spots develop white heads, it may be that infection has set in and you should consult your doctor or practice nurse for their professional opinion.
We are not in a position to diagnose the contra-action, or suggest specific medication, however your GP may recommend a low strength cortisone cream or an antihistamine to improve the natural healing process. Products like Tend Skin and Skin Doctors are impressive after care solutions that can be purchased from leading chemists or on-line
.
